Scholarship? Financial aid??

I just found out that my dad hasn't sent in all of my financial aid/fasfa forms to all of the schools. So does this mean that I won't receive any merit or academic scholarships until those forms are filled? Because I thought they were separate, but now my mom tells me that they may not consider any form of aid until the financial forms are in. I doubt that I would qualify for need-based aid. Either way, when do scholarship notifications typically start coming in? (I got into SVA, SAIC, MICA, Ringling, and SCAD and am waiting for information from all of them)

I'm in a bit of a tough spot because I got a full ride to East Tennessee State University arts honors program (tuition, room, board, books, meals, everything) that I must respond to by the 17th of March, so if I hold off for the art schools and I don't get any scholarships, I'm screwed. I am expecting some money but it's going to have to be substantial to afford these schools, especially if it means turning down a full ride! I know it sounds crazy for me not to want to go to ETSU despite the offer, but it is 45 mins. from my home town AND my dad teaches there AND I want nothing more than to get away from east TN!!

Definitely CALL those schools asap and let them know what’s up and ask if you can still send stuff in. My friend was in a similar situation for RISD and I’m pretty sure she got her stuff worked out.

And  that IS a tough spot to be in. Being me (who didn’t apply to anything in-state) I would urge you to go for a school you truly love + not just for the scholarship, but then again I don’t know how dire your financial situation is. You should probably discuss it with your parents if you haven’t already. I do know that personally, I’d rather be poor and go to my dream school (a likely route for me anyway) than go to another school that’s offering substantial money (also a possible route right now but not one I’m even considering anymore).

good luck!

MICA fin aid gets mailed April 11th regardless :-/

MICA’s philosopy for merit aid is to share the wealth: giving out more smaller scholarships.

The most talented artistically and academically get scholarships for about half the total cost of attendance, so expect to pay at least $20K per year out of pocket.

As a parent, I would suggest giving the free ride a try and keeping the financial gunpowder dry for an MFA from a prestigious grad school.

Not all merit awards require finiancial aid forms to be completed. Maybe you can contact ETSU and ask them for more time to make your decision - Good luck.

Thanks it turns out all the FAFSA forms ARE in, just not all of the schools’ individual financial aid applications.

I don’t know if ETSU would give me more time, considering only 22 people are accepted into the honors program each year I would guess that there are applicants on an alternate list in case a spot opens up.

I did write a letter to SVA though asking them to please consider me for scholarship, since they are really my first choice school, and information about when scholarships will be released.
