Hello! I am a senior in high school hoping to major in pharmacy and minor in music.
What scholarships are there for non-major violinists? I’ve been playing for 8 years. I don’t mind having to audition.

Try the music forum, this is sort of a specialty topic. But are you saying you won’t qualify for need or merit based the tradional way, meaning stats?
I’m having a hard time seeing why a non-music school wd give special scholarships to violinists, especially to ones who don’t want to major in it.
What’s wrong w pursuing plain vanilla FA or plain vanilla merit scholarships?
Pre-pharmacy is an intention, not a major. Or, did you mean major in pharmacology/toxicology?
You could major in violin while completing pre-pharmacy requirements.
University of Wisconsin system schools have 10 full tuition scholarships in total per year for non-music majors but only for Wisconsin residents who audition in June after junior year of high school at UW-Madison’s Summer Music Clinic.
Pharmacy is not a major in undergrad.
You could major in Music Performance (Violin) as an undergrad and complete the pre-pharm req’ts.
Many schools give those.
What are your stats? Maybe you can get a scholarship based ONLY on your stats.
How big of an award do you need? Many music and stats scholarships are for tuition only. You’d have to cover the room, board, etc.
My son played violin since the age of 5 (Suzuki) and had no interest in majoring in music, although he was quite goo.
There weren’t any significant scholarships for violin, for neither he nor his sisters. I think there was a local one for $500 and the application was ridiculously long and cumbersome. It really wasn’t worth his time.
If you are not majoring in music, I think finding funding, based only on your violin skills, will be extremely difficult.
His middle school “orchestra” had ~40 violinists (most of them Suzuki-trained)
University of Puget Sound offers music scholarships to non music majors who audition on campus, at a regional audition, or via recording. The music scholarship can be stacked with academic scholarships.
I mainly know about LACs, since that’s what we’ve been researching. Here are a few LACs (in addition to UPS that @musicohana mentioned above) that offer music scholarships to non-majors that I know of off the top of my head:
St. Olaf (they give out a ton of music scholarships, something like 60/yr)
Trinity U (TX)
Skidmore (only give out 5, very competitive)
Luther
Concordia College
Gettysburg
Rollins also gives out a lot of music scholarships, but I’m not clear on whether or not they’re available to non-majors
Most of these awards are <= $12K/yr, so we’re not talking about free rides here, just some help.
No idea about a pharmacy or pre-pharmacy majors at any of these institutions.
