Scholarship Ithaca College?

My D was offered a merit based scholarship to Itaca, but it is not terribly large. Is it acceptable to call and let them know that D wants to attend but we need more scholarship money in order to do so? Who do you speak to and will they hold it against her?

I would have your D write a letter to the FA officer requesting additional funds and stating some reasons for the request. It will not be “held against her”, especially if there are valid reasons and she expresses her desire to attend Ithaca. I know several kids who did this last year and were actually successful in increasing their awards.

Btw, Ithaca is notorious for adding on additional fees and charges. If it were my kid, I’d have her ask for a bit more than is actually needed!

My D is concerned that it will be looked down upon to ask.

Many students ask schools to reconsider their scholarship awards. What possible difference would it make to the school at this point? They aren’t going to “unaccept” your daughter and she is likely not the only one asking.

But be alerted…they may not do anything about her request.

How do you best express the need for more money? She’s having trouble knowing how to word it and I’m not sure either.
