Scholarship/Offer Negotiations Help

To clarify, there were no games played in our situation. These were called “placeholder offers” by the coach. It was my son’s first offer and the coach repeatedly urged us to take our time. We were more than upfront with the coaches telling them my son wanted to major in engineering. Both schools in my example did not have engineering schools…they figured it out. Our attention turned to Ivys with engineering programs in the mid-summer.

My point above was that pressing the situation may not be the best strategy in negotiations. Sometimes developing a market for yourself is a better strategy, and gives you more leverage with the coach, admissions and financial aid.
