Scholarship? Or better school?

I am a NMF, so I have a full tuition scholarship to ASU- probably the best university in the US for engineering that will also give me a full tuition scholarship.

I have also been accepted to the University of Wisconsin Madison (which is in the top 20 ranked engineering schools nationally.) Freshman year I will probably get enough scholarships to cover tuition, but after that I will not.
What is more important? coming out of school without student loans? or having a degree from a good school?

Welcome to CC. What field of engineering? ASU is Arizona State University, correct? What are the overall projected costs of each option?

Just warning you because you’re new here - whether or not it is worth going to “top” universities paying lots of $$$ versus going to other universities with significant scholarships is a constant topic of debate on here. You’ll probably get opinions on both sides. Good luck wherever you end up!

Mechanical Engineering Most likely.

Engineering is not very prestige driven. Recruiting is often regional, so the primary advantage of Wisconsin over Arizona State would be if you want to work in that region.

How are you paying for the costs not covered by the school?

What are your parents saying about how much they’ll pay?

for mechE it doesnt matter…and good school with accredited eng’g is fine.

Do you realize that you can only borrow $5500? If your parents won’t pay for the rest at either school, then neither one is affordable.
