I am a senior in high school looking to go somewhere for mechanical engineering. I'm a national merit semi-finalist (hopefully finalist), with great academic performance, ec's, blah blah I don't want to bore you with stats.

But anyway, I am at a loss for where to apply. I was looking at OSU (oh yeah, I live in Ohio by the way) since it's so close to home, Miami University for the same reason, the University of Illinois, and maybe like Auburn or Alabama since they give a ton of merit aid. And merit aid is basically all I can get. My FAFSA is awful.

What would be a good option for mechanical engineering and merit aid?

If your EFC is too high for your parents to afford why would you look at UIUC? tOSU is a good school as is Miami. What about UC for Mech? I think you have the most likely schools with excellent merit aid (Auburn and AL). Maybe also look at the Arizona schools as well.

Others to look at Purdue(not sure on merit aid here), Rose-Hulman (good merit aid and they accept alot of AP credit possibly to the point where you may be looking at 2.5 years to graduate), Franklin Olin (great aid), and Cooper Union (full ride scholarship).
