Scholarship probability at the commonwealth college

Hi everyone I could really use some help here as I am stressing out and growing grey hairs far before my time! My parents are only willing to pay for something of equal or lesser value to a SUNY school. Because I'm an out-of-stater, I'm not sure if I would get a lot/any money to the commonwealth college in UMass. I would love to come here, but it is completely contingent on whether I could get a significant scholarship or not.

I am a junior in high school (in Long Island) with a 94.25 average weighted. On the SAT and ACT cold and got an 1820 and 27 respectively. I am hearing back in a few days about my most recent SAT score that I believe I did much better on.

Extra-curricular wise, I am very well rounded. I am in my high school jazz band as well as another honors band composed of the finest musicians in nassau and suffolk county. I am also an all-county jazz tenor sax player as well as an All-State jazz sax player for both bari and tenor sax. I am in mock trial, model congress, and the Youth Leadership group of our community. I was in the pit orchestra for several musicals, on the comedy team for a variety show our school presents, and am a columnist/copy editor/assistant op-ed editor of the school newspaper. I have won the award at Adelphi's Press Day for best feature article on Long Island. I also founded my own jazz quartet and have played at charity events/school functions/paying gigs. Other work experience includes being a caddy at a country club and a cabana boy at a beach club. I also volunteered a summer at a nursing home.

I am in the national honors society, quill and scroll honors society (journalism/writing), thespian honors society (theater), Tri-M honors society (music), and have silver cord (for 30 hours of community service per year).

I enjoy writing and public speaking and I am very interested in law.

I have taken several AP classes this year and last year as well as a rigorous schedule next year to show I am still willing to challenge myself. Next year's schedule (in no particular order):

AP english
AP environmental science
AP statistics
AP government
college economics
college spanish
wind ensemble
theater
gym/lab
lunch

I think I'm a good enough writer to write a very good essay and recommendation-wise, the superintendent of schools asked if she could write one for me, so I think I'm pretty set in that regard as well. What really concerns me is if my GPA is too mediocre/borderline for Umass's honors college standards as well as my somewhat sub-par standardized exam scores. While those grades are not final, and I am still yet to take a US history and Mathematics I SAT II, I am very nervous about my probability of getting a significant scholarship. Please chance me and help assuage my nerves!!! Also, how good is UMass's pre-law programs/potential majors to help me out for law school???

UMass doesn’t give out a tremendous amount of merit aid, ComCol or not.

Your best chance is to have the highest grades and test scores that you can, and apply early action. It seems like most of what aid that is given out goes to EA.

I don’t know how realistic your chances (or anybody’s, really) are of getting enough to bring the price down to SUNY level, though. Check the accepted student threads for an idea of what people are getting.

Bumping this a little bit guys i got my SAT score back…1990.

Congrats on raising your SATs 170 points! That’s a nice bump.

A number of out-of-state kids with stats similar to yours got $6000-$8000 in scholarships this year, which would bring the OOS cost down to $27-29K.

But it seems like you have to apply EA to get that kind of money.
