Congrats! But those late and big scholarships are very rare. There are also some scholarships announced later after they have been declined by the originally awarded student.</p>
<p>I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that OOS financial aid is always worse than In state. When my D applied, even though she was a resident, they had her classified as OOS. We didn’t realize this until she got her FA package. I called and got it corrected and the resulting FA package had the exact same EFC for us. They just reduced the UMich grant to match the decrease in tuition when classifying her as in state. </p>
<p>^ For the same scholarship, OOS student may get a larger amount than in-state students. For instance, $8k/yr for in state Engineering Scholarship of Honors but $20k/yr for OOS. The difference is UMich only guarantee need met for in state students while only a very small percentage of oos students got the need met. EFC should not be affected anyway.</p>
<p>There was no scholarship money involved- only need based aid. I guess it was a rarity that she would have had our need covered. </p>
