Hi everyone,
I’ll be attending a scholarship finalist weekend soon and wanted to know if there were some tips to prepare. It’s comprised of an interview as well as activities the days before (panels, class visits, a dinner, etc.). I’ve been practicing for the interview but am at a loss at what to do for the rest of the activities. In particular, what are some tips for a scholarship dinner? What exactly are they looking for? Good table manners, someone who’s polite and respectful, I’m sure, but what else?
Any tips are appreciated. (:
Yes to your questions as a baseline.
I wouldn’t be too overly worried. Relax a bit. They like you and think highly of you already to be invited.
Look people in the eye when speaking to you or being introduced.
Have a firm handshake.
Listen intently.
Answer questions but don’t ramble.
Ask questions you have but make sure they are relevant and be interested in those you are speaking to and don’t switch to yourself at every opportunity.
Be yourself. Don’t try to impress or inflate. Be authentic.
They already like you. Reinforce this at all times. At these events and in life.
My two cents. Have fun too!
What scholarship is this for?
Hopefully, this is obvious to every student but my #1 advice would be to keep your phone put away.
Thank you for all the tips!
