Scholarship Writing for the Unexceptional

So I have a couple school scholarships due by the end of next week that I have been struggling on for weeks and this is a question that probably gets brought up a fair amount…

How do you put together a convincing essay for why you’re deserving of a scholarship if you haven’t really done anything exceptional? Sure, I’ve participated in club activities and community service but there’s nothing that really gives me that wow factor. Additionally, I come from a middle class family so though my family is definitely not rich, I doubt I’ll be getting any need-based scholarships.

Specifically speaking, I have a scholarship where I need to describe why continuing biological studies is important and what I’ll use the scholarship for as well as one where I need to describe my community impact but there are others around me who have taken just as many, if not more, of the same classes and participated in the same clubs and community service. To make a convincing essay, you need examples of things that show you’re deserving but I do I do that convincingly if others have done the same?

In an essence, how do I make myself stand out? Thanks!
