Scholarship

Does anyone know if you can get regular scholarships to pay for the $2,400 odd dollars that you pay when you arrive at USNA?

Tyler~at CVW they encouraged parents to have their students continue to pursue scholarships for that very reason. There are some expenses not covered throughout the 4 years and scholarships can help defray the costs. JM

Tyleroar: It is possible to get scholarships that can be deposited at your USNA account and used to defray a variety of school related expenses. However, those scholarships are more scarce than the traditional scholarships that specify that the funds must be used only for tuition or room/board. You need to check the guidelines for the various scholarships and, if unclear, ask them specifically about the use of the scholarship at USNA. Also check with USNA to see what guidelines they have.

Many of the smaller, local-type scholarships sponsored by civic groups are more flexible in their awards.

Realistically, however, many of these same groups will not give the award to an Academy-bound student, favoring the student who is paying "full boat" to help defray the enormous out of pocket expense. I would still apply, but understand the reasons you application may be declined in favor of someone else.
