I was admitted and received a $25k scholarship for NYU College of Arts and Sciences. the scholarship said 07-08 but made no mention of renewable or 4-years. I was wondering if the scholarship is one time or give out every year for four years. Thanks for the input!

I was wondering the same thing...we definitely need to figure that out before deciding about NYU. As an aside, what kind of scholarship is that--is that the Lewis Rudin scholarship, or is it something else.

Hi All,

If it is renewable type of scholorship, it is mentioned clearly so in the letter.
My S got a University scholorship at BU (50% ride) all 4 years. The letter clearly mentions that the scholorship will be renewed each year contingent on maintaining your GPA.

did your scholarship come with your admission package?

I got the same $25,000 scholarship from CAS and was wondering if it was renewable too! It certainly seems like it. And yes, it came with the acceptance letter.

i called to financial aids department. they said as long as you maintian 2.0 gpa, you will be awarded with that 25k every year.

2.0?! wow, thats cool.

yes, 2.0! i didnt believe it until i called

That is awesome. In the days when they gave out Stern scholarships, you had to have a 3.5 gpa to renew!!!

you will need 2.0 to get that scholarship every year. however, you will need to maintain 3.5 to be in the stern scholar program( at least 3 years)

Actually, my Stern Scholarship had no GPA requirement attached (I'm Class of 2007).

Um that's because if Stern gave out scholarships, they'd have to give EVERYONE scholarships.

It's like how ivies don't give merit aid because everyone would get it.

they wouldn't give everyone scholarships. they'd give scholarships to the people that probably have the chance to consider HYPMSC & wharton.

Everyone has a chance to "consider" them....whether or not they'll get in is entirely another question.

well by consider i meant for people that already got in. stern can already hook top students (those considering the lower ivies and the like), but top top students might need more of a reason.

Would those of you who got the 25k CAS scholarship mind saying what your stats were and any other information as to how you got it? If my D had received that she would have been able to go to NYU, but all the other schools she got in to offered her scholarships in that range so she is going elsewhere. Thanks!

anybody have/know stats for scholarship for SCSP? Thanks.

Student is white male from inner city public school (it is a magnet school for top students)

$15000 Carroll and Milton Petrie Scholarship
$15000 Trustee Scholarship

m 790
v 740
w 720

this is for a CAS student. FWIW, my (parent) agi was 52000
Student is from single parent home (never met father) and is only child of a parent who never attended college

He didn't apply for any scholarship other than doing the common app and supplement.

He also has 2400 in Perkins and 3500 in Stafford, $900 in work study. My EFC is just under 12K and that is what NYU expects me to contribute (although depending on if he gets into Low cost housing, this could go up or down).

So it's not like he got a free ride.

so...nyu is kind of generous with scholarships? except in stern, where everybody is...crazy? ahah. jay kay. thanks.

password: If by "generous," you mean "stingy," then yes. NYU is notorious for its scanty financial aid. It's just that some students make out quite well with the few big-money scholarships that NYU offers.
