Scholarships After Gap Year?

Hey guys,
I’m curious if you delay going to college by a semester/year, can you still receive merit scholarships from you high school?

I have solid high school statistics, but was fairly unaware of all the scholarship opportunities out there (based on leadership and high school rank/classes/rigor, etc). Additionally, I haven’t received much money from the colleges themselves either. Now I’m debating declining all of my offers and starting over in the winter/spring.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

Thank you!

I think most local community scholarships are only available to graduating HS seniors.

But if you want to take a gap year you could apply to schools that would offer you merit for your stats.

Don’t take college classes anywhere during the gap year to preserve freshman status.

Your high school gives out merit scholarships for college? That’s unusual.

If you’re talking about just local community one year small awards, you may not qualify after gap year.

If you’re talking about taking a gap year, and then applying to COLLEGES that award merit, that is different.

Yes sorry, I meant from colleges… not HS!

Its June, what is your situation now? Are you committed to a college after your gap year?

Unfortunately, usually gap years have negative consequences on scholarship eligibility. Many/most outside scholarships require applicants to be high school seniors, immediately proceeding to enroll in a U.S. college or university. Institutional eligibility will vary, but some schools will not offer the same levels of merit to students who have chosen to take a gap year.

Contact the colleges you think might offer the merit you need, and inquire about gap year policies.
