Scholarships & Financial Aid

To update my post above-found out whole award is renewable, thank goodness.

Congrats researchmaven on getting that aid. I hope to get some of the same. Would you mind disclosing what the “free money” portion totaled?
Thanks!

My son received his financial aid package today–$8000 Loyola Scholarship and $8100 FordhamTuition Award.

We just received our son’s financial aid package and were shocked. We have one in college already, at a school where the financial aid commitment is to meet 100% of demonstrated need. I guess Fordham is unable to do that.

Our EFC is $2895, but the unmet costs after Fordham financial aid turned out to have been $17,500!

BTW, we will not be able to secure PLUS loans, having already been denied for our daughter.

Does this sound right?

Our son was already devastated that he was not accepted into any of his top choice colleges, but was happy that he made it inot Fordham, as we really enjoyed our visit there.

Now it looks like we may have to tell him he won’t be able o go there either…

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

NYDadandMom…I think you should apply again for the PLUS with your Son’s (Fordham information). Perhaps when you applied for your daughter the school did not approve it since they felt they met the need. I believe it’s different for each child and school. Give it a shot and use Sallie Mae’s on line app.You can also have someone co-sign with good credit or if you have equity in your home, do a home equity loan.I will have two in college in the fall as well and the older one’s school (Hofstra)doesn’t give anything other than loans. I’m building my case and writing to them. I have presented our case to Fordham already and I’m still waiting on a package…I’ll let you know if it helped. I hope you can work it out, I’m rooting for you! Otherwise start doing scholarship apps on Fast Web, that’s my plan!
