I recently applied for Geneseo via early decision. I was wondering if Geneseo normally offered scholarships to early decision applicants or if it was uncommon to do so.

It is uncommon for Geneseo to offer scholarships, period.

Geneseo offers a number of merit based scholarships. The numbers and types are explained on the financial aid page. Geneseo does attract what is probably the strongest applicants of all the SUNYs so the competition may be stronger for merit based scholarships at Geneseo than for other SUNYs-not because they give fewer of them but because the competition from other students is so strong. A rule of thumb is that the higher your credentials are compared to those of the usual accepted student, the better your chances are of getting a merit based scholarship. Some students opt to attend schools that place them at the top, in terms of credentials to get that merit based scholarship. That also helps ensure a high GPA. On the negative side, it means that peers are less strong academically. If you are looking for an energized student body that is fully engaged in academic pursuits, you will probably prefer a school with peers more like you. And that may mean the chances for a merit based scholarship are lower.
