Scholarships for incoming freshman

Hi! My D was EA deferred and just got her acceptance this week. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize the merit based scholarships were a separate application and missed the Jan 15th deadline. Does anyone know if Tulane offers other types of financial aide?

@dshead

Are you sure you meant to post this in the Tulane forum? Because you didn’t miss any applications for merit aid, unless you are talking about the full tuition scholarships called the Deans Honors Scholarship and the Paul Tulane Award. Those deadlines were December 5. Also there is a $20,000 scholarship called the Community Service Fellowship, and that was January 15. But every Tulane applicant is considered for merit awards up to $32,000 without filling out a separate application. If she already got her letter of acceptance in the mail and did not see any mention of an award, then she did not get one. But if she only saw her acceptance online, then she needs to wait and see the letter.

If she did not get a merit based award, there is the possibility for need based aid. To be eligible for that, you need to fill out the FAFSA and the CSS forms. Those should have been in by February 15, but there is no hard deadline. You need to get those in as quickly as possible though, because at some point the money does run out.

I just saw your posts on the other thread, so indeed it does look like she did not receive merit awards. What were her UW and W GPA and her SAT or ACT score?

So as I say, you need to look at this page: http://tulane.edu/financialaid/ and get those forms in quickly. The page says February 15 is a deadline but they will still take your forms if you move quickly.

Thanks @fallenchemist for your response. Thankfully I’ve completed the FASFA and the CSS so hopefully we’ll qualify for at least a small aid amount. Fingers crossed. Her GPA is 3.79 and her ACT was 30.

@fallenchemist Usually when do admitted students find out about their financial aid packages? Is there a thread for that already? I’ve been looking but can’t seem to find one.

No thread, and usually there isn’t one that I can recall @KayCow . But Tulane’s need based packages are usually released in late March, close to the notification deadline for admission.
