I'm from Europe, and would like to go to college in the US to study design.

I've looked into all the prestigious colleges. Both at Pratt and Parsons, for example, international students have a possibility to apply for/receive scholarship.

However, there seems to be (at least according to rankings, reviews etc.- which could, naturally, be wrong; I would love to hear an opinion on this also) that the Rhode Island School of Design is the best of the best in the category I'm interested in. However, I'm a little confused about the information on their website referring to scholarships for international students- it didn't clear things up for me, unfortunately. Basically, I'm confused about whether it's even possible for me, as an international student, to apply for/receive a scholarship at RISD.

I would be ever so grateful for any help I could get on here- perhaps there are RISD students who could help me out? Or someone else knowledgeable in the matter? Thank you so much in advance.

I agree it’s not crystal clear. The website says, “International students…are not eligible for financial aid.” The school’s non-need based scholarships, which seem highly competitive, are discussed in the financial aid section of the website: “RISD also offers several scholarships each year to freshmen who exhibit outstanding academic and artistic achievement but do not necessarily demonstrate need. Two awards of at least $10,000 are made to participants in the Arts Recognition and Talent Search (ARTS) ([YoungArts](http://www.nfaa.org)), and two awards of at least $10,000 are made to participants in Scholastics ([Scholastic Art & Writing Awards | Scholastic Art & Writing Awards](http://www.artandwriting.org)). To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must enter the ARTS or Scholastics competitions.” The fact that these scholarships are addressed under “financial aid” suggests (but only suggests) that they are not available to internationals. BUT, the people who create websites aren’t always perfect on this kind of detail. You should email the school’s financial aid office for clarification. Your question is simply whether internationals are eligible for non-need based scholarships.
