So my parents had a negative income on their tax return last year because of going out of business. Does anyone know of any scholarships for low or no income students? I know there's some for minorities...but I'm white...and don't say there aren't any because there are many out there.

Questbridge for one.

What are your stats?

If they’re high enough, you could get some merit scholarships. Deadlines are approaching, so you’ll have to act quickly. :)

When your parents file taxes in April, for 2009 income , will their income also be very low?

BTW…hasn’t the deadline for Questbridge passed?

Questbridge is way past due,Finalists get their acceptances/rejections next week!

Many colleges offer need-based scholarships. Offering such scholarships, however, doesn’t mean that the colleges will meet your full financial need or will meet your need without large loans.

The colleges, however, that promise to meet 100% of all accepted students’ financial need tend to be the most difficult in the country to gain acceptance to.

Typically, the most affordable way for very high need students to go to college is to commute their local community college and then transfer to an in state public.

If such a student has high stats, they may be able to get into one of the top colleges in the country-- places like Harvard that offer low income students excellent need-based financial aid that includes no loans.

Anyone else find it ironic that the OP seems to know there are many out there, but wants others to tell him/her where they are?

Fastweb is your friend :).

I think that we need to know the OP’s stats and whether her parents’ 2010 tax return (for 2009 earnings) will also be low (because that’s what her FAFSA will be based on).

I don’t think it will matter if the 2009 tax return income was low, if the 2010 tax return is going to be much bigger.

besides, won’t colleges be suspicious of businesss owners claiming no income. Won’t they wonder what the family lived on during the last year or so. It sounds like the family may have assets. But, I don’t know. :)
