So I'm planning to transfer this Fall 2008 and am looking potentially at anywhere between 10-20k of debt, depending on how much financial aid I am awarded. Even Fastweb has been matching me up with very few scholarships. Any advice or help would be GREATLY appreciated as this whole financial thing is very stressing to me.

D is not transferring, but we are finding that most of the available scholarships seem to be for graduating seniors. As I posted in another thread, she did quite well last year, but now we are looking for ones that she can apply to for sophomore year, and they seem very scarce. Her college offers some to upperclassmen, but they have to be in their major to qualify, and right now, she is Undeclared.

I meant I am having an extremely difficult time finding scholarships to fund next year. I will be a Junior Transfer and it is important to me in making my decision to which university attend that money not be the primary issue. That would be quite heartbreaking. Wether it be merit, or ethnic or essay required. I don't really care so long as I find sufficient scholarships!

I'm also looking at transfering, and it seems we transfers pretty much get screwed with the whole financial aid thing. I'm thinking a lot of smaller schools are just going to be way too low on aid to be able to consider, as they'll be running out of money after awarding aid to all the freshman applicants.

Yes, the vast majority of scholarships, both outside and institutional are for entering freshmen. As allie's mom said, colleges often have institutional scholarships for upperclassmen, but they tend to be very specific in who can apply for them.

This is one reason why I keep trying to tell people that while local outside scholarships are great, they are not a realistic way to fund a substantial portion of an entire undergraduate degree.

I know. bummer. I think I'll have to settle for the small scholarships my community college offers. i think i'm going to try most if not all of them. the only problem is that they are offered late spring semester. :P
