I didn’t want to piggyback on another similar thread.
I LOVE my daughter’s essay It’s very much a statement of who she is, and of her ties to the rest of the family.
I’m kind of hoping we can find someplace for her to re-use it, possibly for some sort of scholarship competition. One of these days I’m going to find the time to start researching sites. In the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions?
My D’s essay was published in our school’s creative magazine. It was also recycled and used for a job application.
She had applied for a teaching internship in a private k to 12 school on Long Island. They asked her to write about herself. So she spoke about how she felt that her college essay captured who she was and included it as part of her larger essay. When they interviewed her, they spoke about how good an essay it was. She was the only intern hired who had not attended their private school or its summer Artist Institute.
So while the essay did not give her scholarship money, I really do believe it was the reason she got her chance to intern and really teach art at this private school. She returned for 3 summers and ultimately has said that working there gave her a very strong foundation in arts education.
Hopefully your D will get an opportunity to recycle hers somehow. Six years and a BFA and MA later, I still think that essay captures her essence!
