If a school were to offer me a scholarship but I decide to take a gap year, in between high school and college, would I still be able to use the scholarship they offered when I apply for hat college a year after they offered it?
If you are accepted by a college AND they offer you a scholarship AND they allow you to take a gap year, you do not need to “reapply” to that college. They will be holding a place for you in the next academic year.
But check with the colleges FA office before committing to a gap year,
BUT, IF YOU TRY TO GET INTO OTHER COLLEGES after letting a college know you want to attend after a gap year, your original acceptance and the scholarship will be revoked.
so dont try to game the system.
It’s up to the school whether to carry over the scholarship for the gap year. Some do, some don’t. You would have to reapply for FA.
It depends
Carefully check the school’s policy. As others have stated, you apply for financial aid every year. If you are receiving need based aid (scholarships) from the school and there are no major fluxuations in income, your need based aid should remain consistent
Many merit scholarships require you to start school in the fall immediately following spring/summer graduation. If you defer or take a gap year you will lose your merit scholarship. Most merit scholarship are given by admissions and affects the school’s yield/admission stats.
Ask the school in writing and get your response in writing.
