Is there any scholarships that are based solely off of act or sat scores and don't factor g.p.a. into the equation?

Montana State’s scholarships are based only on test scores.

What is your test score and gpa?

30 act/1940 sat(non prepped) 2.6 g.p.a. was just wondering if I should prep for the act/sat extensively and hopefully raise it up to around a 32/2100, just was hoping to see for scholarships.

As i feel raising my test scores now won’t do anything since I am already at that “slacker” stage and if I raise higher, its ignored as I still am considered a slacker.

Is that your weighted GPA?

You should still try to raise your score. There are a few schools that might still award you a scholarship. Why is your GPA so low?

My GPA is low as through freshman and sophomore year, i slacked in my classwork, didn’t really care to much about getting high marks and rather dabbled in other activities. I turned it around this year but I still realize I am absolutely %*$ed in the admissions game as there is absolutely nothing I can do to get into my flagship or even secondary flagship. And do you know any off the top of your head? I am sure if i prep even a bit my acts will soar upwards.

What state are you in?

*And do you know any off the top of your head? I am sure if i prep even a bit my acts will soar upwards. *

I can think of many schools that you can get accepted to.

What do you want? A big sports flagship school?

How much can you afford to spend?

What is your likely major/career?

Hopefully, your score will increase. :)

Heh heh I am in Michigan where Michigan and State are and thus both great schools with great bang for the buck i am paying. Only problem is that I am 1, 1.2 gpa points lower than their medians with higher test scores. I was looking for a more guaranteed merit scholarship that was based solely on test scores just to lower costs of other colleges.

Major is Finance/Chem engineering.

Can afford 20-30k/year tuition+board taking up to around 40k in loans( ya I know its bad taking up large loans, but my major isn’t exactly basketweaving…)

And I want a school with good business and decent engineering school which generally most flagships have.

Keep in mind that you can only borrow the following amounts during your 4 years of college w/o a co-signer…5500, 6500, 7500, 7500. So, about $27k. For you to borrow more would require your parents to co-sign a loan or take a Plus loan.

Alabama has a good B school and a good College of Engineering. It would be affordable for you. The OOS COA ranges from about $30k-34k depending on the housing you choose.

Bama actually has a decent number of Mich students.

You could get into the Honors College which only looks at test scores. Your current ACT is high enough, but if you were to raise your ACT or SAT, you might get some scholarship money, altho your GPA might prevent $$$.

Bama has recently completed 2 phases of its new Shelby Science and Engineering Complex. It’s huge, gorgeous, and has fab new labs and classrooms. Phase III is currently being built.

Maybe one of the Michigan directional Universities?

I get the feeling that he wants the activities and sports excitement that goes on at state flagships. You often don’t get that at directional universities that are often commuter or suitcase schools.

Well the sports excitement and activities are nice, but the main part I like about state flagships are most of them have good engineering with good business. None of the directional universities + michigan tech seem to have strong programs in both. I mean Western seems like the closest to having both, but I feel as a directional university it also doesn’t have the prestige of general flagship/seccondary flagship. Oh and I’m not aloud to go to Western as in Michigan is seen as a party school.

Also mom2collegekids, thankyou for the information about Alabama, I had looked into them but did not realize that the honors college was test score only, effectively pushing them up my list (30 or so colleges looking through, probably apply to the ten or so I really like) a good deal. Do you know how the racial mix is there? My parents are worried about me going South as I am Asian(I see it as slightly paranoid), when I talked to them about LSU. I have seen some of your posts and take it you have a student there so I’m guessing you might know a bit more about it.

The Asian numbers at Bama aren’t huge, but there are Asian students. Asian students are more concentrated in certain majors…engineering, bio, chem, math, etc. There are also many Asian profs at Bama. Being Asian at Bama isn’t a problem.

I have 2 sons at Bama…one is a Math major and the other is a Chemical Engineering major.

How would you say your son likes the chemical engineering there? And how would you think he would say the coursework for chemical engineers is there?
