scholarships versus grants

My son got his admittance letter which listed his merit scholarship.

On Grinnell's website they talk about "scholarships, grants, work, and loans." Are grants need based? Is work need based?

I think grants are generally need-based - it just means you don't have to pay it back. Work study is also need based. However, there are lots of campus jobs at Grinnell that don't require the student to be on work study.

I didn't get any scholarships from Grinnell, but I got $28,000 in grant money. I'm worried that it's not renewable or that it'll dramatically change next year. I also got an offer from another school with a renewable scholarship.. What should I do?

call them up!

Grants are generally renewable unless family circumstances change. Financial aid is reevaluated every year.
