Scholarships

My daughter wanted to go to Austin College Sherman TX. Cost per year is 52,000. Any idea about outside scholarships?
Thanks

The best scholarships typically come directly from the school itself.

@medtalk You may want to visit CC’s scholarship forum: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/ (but GMTplus7 is correct, best money comes from the school itself). - psy

@medtalk Has your D considered public universities in Texas? There are many locations, and the cost would be about half.

75% of their students receive merit scholarships. You get the most money from the school itself.

Do u need FA? If so, have u used the college’s Net Price Calculator on its website?

“The best scholarships typically come directly from the school itself.” - This has been exactly my D’s experience. She applied to numerous outside scholarships and it was 100% waste of time. She received various amounts of Merit Scholarships from every place that she applied, the highest offers came from Miami (OH) and Case Western. She attended at Miami on full tuition merit scholarship and later was eligible for $4k more of Returning Student Merit award based on her college GPA. D. did not have any reasons to apply to any of the schools that we knew would not offer her a Merit award. We were very far from being eligible for need based FA.

Feel FAFSA, apply for scholarship, which are provided by the college. Then look for external resources.

You could check trustworthy scholarship directories such as ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■, fastweb.com, ■■■■■■■■■ and so on. Try to search for “Texas scholarships”, “scholarship for woman” and all possible suitable types of scholarships. Some of the websites require to create a profile of the applicant, where you should feel all necessary information about your daughter, including age, race, accomplishments etc.

Also check scholarships foundations’ websites and look for available grants.

Just moved the thread to Financial Aid and Scholarships

Are you the parent or the student? In other posts, the poster is a student.

Mom asked this question? Was not aware of the separate account as her account is not working.
Thanks everybody for your replies.
