scholarships

Hello!

Having gotten into university now (Stanford), my next goal is to try to get as many scholarships as possible to pay for it...

I was wondering if any of you parents knew where to look/apply for university scholarships.

Thanks in advance

OCollege:
Congratulations on getting into Stanford, but if you plan on looking for scholarship$ after getting admission, you've got major problems. Most of the school_independent scholarships are already past their deadlines.

Look at www.fastweb.com. You have to register with an email id. They update you on scholarships. I know some are dubious but some are essay contests and such; for example the 'Ayn Rand Essay' scholarship (competitive, btw). Some are very specific; example, a scholarship for people interested in Environmental science. Then there are scholarships you can get after becoming a freshman such as William Randolph Hearst scholarship for minority journalists, or the Philadelphia Enquirer scholarship for minority journalists etc.

I would treat many of the scholarships on fastweb with a bit of scepticism, though. Some might be all right. For example someone here got the Environmental Science scholarship which is quite substantial.

There are a ton of underground scholarships, such as the Tall Association scholarship or something along those lines. You really have to dig for the ones that aren't going to be extremely competitive (Coca Cola Scholarship, for example)

Ask your guidance office. Though my children didn't have a particularly useful department, they had a great listing of national and local (often times the better) scholarship opportunities which came in handy.
