There are odd ones out there that are worth checking out. My parents established one at UCSB after my brothers death in 1983. It is/was targeted towards B average incoming freshman (not quite sure how this would work for current UCSB standards). I'm sure there are others. I don't know if it is still going on as my parents said that several of the recipients of the scholarship did not even thank them (the board they were on chose the recipients). However, food for thought is that there are many different types of scholarships at each school, some with quirky guidelines that may help your child so it's worth checking all scholarships available out. Some specify certain religions/race/income/major/interests/athletics/grades (high/mid and low) (including SAT's), languages and EC's so be sure to ask about this at the schools your child is interested in. You may be surprised at the range of scholarships!

Thanks, kyedor, you're absolutely right. There are so many different scholarships out there. DD has applied for a couple (Coca-Cola and Coldwell Banker) and continues to search for more. She, along with several other seniors (some of them members or children of members of CC :) ), has been invited to compete for the Hays Memorial Scholarship at Hendrix and she'll absolutely do that. We've also encouraged her not to overlook those scholarships that don't offer big money, because some money is better than none. I know she, like many others, is suffering from early onset of senioritis. She's tired of applications, essays, homework and tests. She's certainly not in shutdown mode, and I do think being finished with the college application process has given her a huge sense of relief. If she can just keep enough energy going to get those scholarship applications complete, she'll be in good shape. Good luck to all!
