Hi everyone! Hope you all are doing well. I’ve started immersing myself in the BS application process again for this year and was wondering about scholarships to help with tuition and FA. Do any of you know about scholarships offered to students in my position? Thank you, and have a great day!
Financial aid is generally based on your family’s financial situation. Not sure what you mean by “students in your position.”
@HMom16 Sorry for the confusion. I’m looking for any scholarships I can apply for to help lower my family’s FA need/ cost for tuition. I’m wondering if anybody knows of any institutions that offer scholarships to high school students that I can use to pay for BS tuition if I am accepted.
There are some schools that offer merit scholarships on top of financial aid.
Peddie
Suffield
Baylor
Are some that I know of
In spring of 7th grade high academic students can apply for Caroline D. Bradley (open to anyone) or Jack Kent Cooke (income requirements). It may be too late for you, but could be useful for others reading this thread.
Kent has some merit scholarships
St. Paul’s has some geographic scholarships (they also have a generous definition of need)
@HhopefulFforSsuccess2021 Andover and Groton offer very generous need-blind scholarships.
MANY boarding schools offer generous financial aid, i.e., “scholarships.”
I believe the OP is asking about merit scholarships, not FA.
Pomfret also offers merit scholarships.
Obviously, most college scholarships target incoming freshmen and undergraduates, so the sooner you start searching for awards and applying for them, the better. But are there any methods of searching or something like that…
McCallie also has an Honors Scholarship program. It’s all boys. Lots who went through the program have ended up at HYPSM and many other top schools. Had a DS who went through the program. PM me if you want more information.
Kent is another school that offers some merit scholarships. Best of luck
I can say $$$$$ offered by each top BS varies a lot for the same kid, apply many places and good luck
Andover also has some extremely generous scholarships for athletes that you can receive simply by talking to coaches and sending video.
No. Andover offers very generous need-based aid, but it requires a bit more effort than “simply … talking to coaches and sending video.” For starters, one needs to be admitted first.
Thank you for all the responses! I’m sorry I wasn’t clear in my statements. I am in need of FA, but I wish to bring down the amount of FA I need through merit based scholarships, and was just curious if anyone knows of any scholarships that I can apply for as a 9th grader. Thank you, again; I will look into all the suggestions.
@skieurope You’re right, I didn’t phrase that very well. I meant the scholarships were for admitted athletes. If you are interested in athletics at Andover and you are admitted you can receive those scholarships based on sports participation and interactions with coaches.
For most schools its really all just one bucket – “school” grant.
@Giraffeneck Andover does not offer merit based scholarships - all are needs based. There are some named scholarships and those may be targeted to people in certain sports, or geographic areas or other criteria, but it is still based off financial need. Their definition of need may be generous, but it is still not a merit scholarship.
@MA2012 The OP said on the last page that she is in need of financial aid as well as looking for merit based scholarships. These scholarships would be available to her because of her financial situation not based on merit.
