I was wondering what my chances at scholarships are. I am from Michigan, my GPA is about a 4.16 and my ACT is a 33. I see that my ACT could help me with a good scholarship, but I noticed that my GPA is lower than the average recipients of some of these awards. I really want the out of state tuition waver, but is my GPA too low? Do I have a chance at these scholarships? Thanks!
My GPA is closer to a 4.22
Have you calculated your U South Carolina GPA? It might be much higher than 4.16.
For all honors and AP courses, add 1 point to your grade. For example an A in US History Honors is worth 5.0, and a B in Chemistry Honors is worth 4.0.
Good luck.
Actually a 4.28 sorry
Is your GPA a 4.28 using the USCar grading system?
Your 33 ACT and 4.28 GPA qualify you for at least the Flinn Scholars and maybe the McKissick or Coopers awards - very generous “in-state tuition” plus awards.

My son had a 33 ACT and somewhere around a 4.2 GPA at the end of his junior year. That GPA is by his Ohio school standard. As STEM2017 mentions, South Carolina re-calculates it according to their standards. They only count required classes and weight them as mentioned in STEM2017’s post above. By their standards, I think that translated to a 4.47. He got in-state tuition plus a couple thousand more (McKissick + $1,000 per year from the Comp & Engr school). Hope that helps.
