How competitve are Vandy's scholarships? They say recipients typically have above a 1500 and are in the top 5% of their class. I meet both these criteria, and I was just wondering if, once one attains these stats, he/she is a shoo in for the merit money.

Nobody is a "shoo-in" for a Vandy scholarship. As a top 25 university with a very strong applicant pool, scholarships are of course very competitive. However, I do think that Vandy is generous with scholarships. It really depends on what kind of scholarship you are looking at; academic requirements for Ingram, Chancellor's scholarships etc. are a bit less stringent than for the Honors scholarships. There were 30 Arts and Sciences Honors scholarships given out for the class of 2010, aboout 12 full tuition scholarships and the rest 3/4 tuition I believe. The average SAT for this group was 1560 and most students were first or second in their class. However, there are many students at Vandy with these qualifications that did not receive an Honors scholarship, so you're by no means a shoo-in; you have to distinguish yourself in some way.
