Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

I got some awards, national and regional, from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards this past year. Are colleges familiar enough with these that I would not need to clarify them?

Because I've heard that sometimes it's good to contextualize award, but I think this one might be well known enough that I don't have to. I'm just not sure. Can anybody clarify this for me?

I'd say those are well-known enough that you wouldn't need to clarify. However, were they significant enough--for example, creating the pieces that you competed with--to warrant explanation, perhaps, in the additional info? Or even for an essay topic?

heyy i got some of those too! but this is the first time i'm hearing that they are well-known to colleges. my GC seemed actually less than pretty impressed.

p.s. geoffreychaucer, are you going to specify whether your award was for Art or Writing? or which section(short stories, poem, portfolio, etc) for that matter?

Congrats to both of you!!! Winning these awards is impressive; the regional competition is very tough and the national competition...well, it's national competition, for heaven sakes! Your gc's should be jumping up and down! You should be jumping up and down! You must be terrific writers or artists.

For college, when you make your list of honors/awards, be sure you mention these. You can put the level of competition in parentheses after the award, as in (national competition). Or you can find some other way to mention the level of competition when you list the award, just don't leave it out!

Well, some awards are overated. :)
