School Mascot

What is the school mascot for Wellesley?

They don't have one- they yell "go blue!" at sporting events, even when the other team is in blue uniforms and the Wellesley team is wearing its white uniforms.

Wellesley Blue
(same idea as the Harvard Crimson)

That's interesting...is that even an animal/person??? Or is it simply a COLOR?

The Stanford Cardinal (team name) is a color...but their mascot is a tree.

In Canada, Blue is a beer. :-)

Same idea as Dartmouth = Big Green and Cornell = Big Red
But I agree that it is kind of lame.

Wellesley students should petition for a new mascot. I hear Dartmouth students are petitioning to change the mascot to a moose. LOL

Also, U Michigan (@ AA) Students always yell/cheer/say "Go Blue"

I vote for an underrepresented but admirable mascot: animal, vegetable, mineral, or supernatural will work. Color just doesn't cut it for me. How about the Wellesley Athenas? It seems to fit--she's the ultimate strong female, she's portrayed in blue a lot, and the name has a lovely lilting roll off the tongue :)

While Wellesley doesn't have a mascot, there is "Wendy Wellesley," which is basically Jo Wellesley Student. A "wendy" is a also a derogatory term for a Wellesley student who is overcomitted, but completely on top of things, has an impressive resum

It might seem weird if you spend a lot of time thinking about it, but the lack of a mascot doesn't really make a huge difference. We're "the blue", but even that isn't a mascot ... it's just something to shout at games (which aren't well attended, anyway, except by loyal friends, nearby family, and the odd passers-by).

Personally, I rather liked not having a mascot. It may not inspire quite the same degree of unity as schools with their talismans might have, but it also kept the image of the school focused on, well, us. We weren't tigers or goddesses or farmers: we were ourselves, in whatever capacity we desired.

And, as WendyMouse pointed out, there's always Wendy Wellesley for situations in which you need an everywoman ;)

wow... I didn't know some schools don't have school mascots!!! Thank you for answering my question.
