Is there any way one can major in Film and Television Production and minor in Stage Management or Accounting?

Bump! Come on guys someone talk…

I just found this thread and think it’s a great idea! Anyone else wants to get into Writing for Screen & Television?

Hey Layra,

That is my second choice. Are you going anything this summer to benefit your application?

I’m not sure, I’ll probably be doing the usual community service, work and maybe some filming, but nothing specific. I’m international, so choices are different here. What are you thinking of?

I’m doing some community service, working on the app, my sat scores and working at a production company!!

Hey Layra!
I’m also interested in Writing for Screen and Television. Torn between that and Film Production. Hoping there’s someway I can do both!

@Dreaming
My weighted GPA is a 3.57. I go to one of the best public schools in the state of Illinois and I’m taking some of the most rigorous classes so I’m hoping that will make a case for me, but my ACT is right on par with the USC standard

Hi Scout!
That’s great! Which is more difficult to get into? Production or Writing? I’m thinking about Critical Studies as a second choice because I heard that it accepts more people, and it’s easier to double major. Writing is BFA, so you can’t really do much next to that.

So, I know I’m terribly early with this, but a couple of years ago all the SCA applicants here at CC made a list of all people & their major choices to keep track of status changes. I know we can’t do that yet, but maybe we could collect who’s applying to what, & maybe help each other once the application process is here. I can’t seem to find the thread right now, but I’ll try to…

Here are a couple of them.

Remember that with the switch to The Common App, the status frenzy has calmed down considerably. Don’t rely too much on the status update reports from these old threads as they have not held true the last two years (though, as always, applicants have been busy reading tea leaves and seeing secret messages even where none exist ).

Yes, thank you so much! :)

Bump guys…anyone?

Hi!! How can I help?

Yes, so I was just saying how we could perhaps make a list of who’s applying to what as seen on those previous threads. I guess it’s never too early to start. :)

I really want to go too! It’s amazing to see all these other Juniors who want to attend USC’s Film Program. I have visited the campus once already and wish to again this October. It is beautiful and I loved the feel of it. I have been really into film for a while, and have been doing online films (25k subscribers at the moment) for a while now. I’m getting my camera this week to work on my application short. Not to sound cocky, but some of the accepted films I have seen on YouTube aren’t very well done at all, so I’m not INSANELY worried on that front. However, my school switched to hard grading last year and my grades really show it. No homework to fluff your grade or help you learn more efficiently. Just studying, tests, and big assignments.

Good luck everyone, I really hope I’ll be seeing you in just over a year.

@Spaceship
Welcome aboard! I assume you want to apply to Film Production, then. From what I’ve gathered, they don’t look at the quality of the films too much, the idea behind it is way more important. USC knows that not everyone has access to the same equipment, or can afford it, and they don’t mind if you don’t have that much experience. I’ve read here on CC that there are some people who hadn’t even held a professional camera before. Also, I think that your supplement is what counts the most at SCA and not your grades, and based on what you’ve written you must be a pretty amazing filmmaker.

Hey Layra and Spaceship!
Spaceship- I agree with you the quality of films hasn’t been amazing but overall the stories were well thought out. I totally agree with Layra that they look for storytelling capability over production. They can teach you how to shoot, they can’t teach you how to be a good storyteller.

Layra-I hope you’re right about that they care more about your SCA supplement than grades!! Hahaha, my grades are alright but not by USC standards and I had a really rough year, my ACT is about on par with USC so I’m hoping that’ll balance out the grades. Hopefully my supplement for SCA will be good enough too.

As for me, I’ll be applying to Film Production and Screenwriting. I was informed if blessed enough to be accepted to both I would have to choose one for my Freshman year, and I have no idea which I’d choose!!!

Hi Scout! How is it possible to be accepted to both? Don’t you declare a first choice and a second choice major, and get accepted to one of them? Correct me if I’m wrong, though. Production is BFA from next year on, so doing both of them would be quite impossible. I don’t really understand why it’s becoming BFA, but I don’t know much about that program anyway…perhaps you could enlighten me?
Well, obviously you need to get accepted to USC first, and then to SCA, but I think that compared with, for example, Biomed Engineering, the emphasis is much less on your grades.
Love your username!

So now I think I’ll make a list of who’s applying to what…

Layra-
I had emailed SCA and asked if it was possible to apply/be accepted to both and they said it was, but then you have to choose which one you’d declare as your major. I don’t really know why it’s becoming a BFA either (maybe DreamingFilms can help us out?) I agree with you about the grade aspect for SCA. At an info session I went to they said SCA staff and Admissions sit down together and if SCA likes you they’ll make a case to admissions as to why you should be accepted.

Glad you like the username :-)

Wow, this is new to me! Although I guess this only actually matters to those, who really can’t make their mind up between two majors.
Did they say anything else worth mentioning at the info session?
