School Of Communications QUESTIONS

Has anyone been in SOC? I had a few questions I wanted to ask but I could never find anyone…

  1. What made you choose SOC?
  2. Do you think the school is preparing you well for your future?
  3. What has been your favorite class so far? (In any of the concentrations)
  4. Did you find it hard to get in?
  5. What do you recommend a HS senior to focus on when applying? (I'm applying ED, my gpa/tests are slightly lower than average...)

GO WILDCATS

Come on guys… there’s gotta be someone!

For school of Comm, I would say students are very much prepared. We have some amazing alum from the school of comm. I’m in Medill though

@CaliCash Thank you for responding! Do you know anyone personally who could respond to these questions?

Yes, but not anyone who would be comfortable with me disclosing their info online. I can ask though.

I’ll try to answer a bit because no one has. Many students choose the NU SOC because they not only learn their “trade” but also are challenged with other intelligent diverse kids and take classes outside of the SOC. This allowed my daughter to take math and history classes for “fun” as a stress releasor from her theatre classes. She was also able to take many theatre class electives which brought her theatre credits to the level of a BFA program, which she found very helpful.

@amtc thank you so much for responding! I hear so many people telling me that a Communications major is useless…

Sorry I’m late to the party. Our D graduated in June with an SOC degree and has been working steadily in her field since a year ago July (she took 2 of her final 3 quarters off for contracts), so I’d say she was extremely well prepared by her NU training and has already benefitted greatly from the strong alumni network. Best of luck with your ED application!
