How do you specify which kind of engineering you want to go to? I wanted to go into Biomedical engineering, but I don't know how to let Rutgers know that...

Hey, I’m assuming you’re going to be entering the SOE next semester as a Freshman.
Well, I am too! I’m currently contemplating whether I wanna do Civil or Mechanical, but it doesn’t matter what you want to do until the end of your freshman year, because all the -engineers- will be taking the same core courses so that we have the basic knowledge required for more specific classes, such as Calc 1, Gen Chem, Physics, etc. If that’s your case, I’ll maybe see you in the fall!

You are required to officially declare your major at the end of the second semester of your freshman year. Before then, there is really no way of “telling” Rutgers that you’re a BME. You can try joining societies like RUBMES or BMES for biomedical engineers, but the purpose of doing so is just to get you familiar with biomedical engineering in general. Before you declare your major (meaning, when you’re a freshman), you’re technically considered a general engineer.

Thanks!
I also want to know if I could use my AP Bio credits for SOE (didn’t take AP Chem)?

If you didn’t take AP Chem, you are required to take General Chemistry your first year. In fact, if you want to be a BME, you have to take both Chem 1 and Chem 2.

If you send your AP bio score, they will automatically place you out of General Biology your sophomore year. There are Bio 1 and Bio 2; if you got a 4 on the exam, you can only AP out of Bio 1. If you got a 5, you can proceed to take the next level biology course without having to worry about general biology.

You cannot use your AP Bio score to opt out of AP Chem…if that’s what you were asking.

Thanks! I just wanted to know since Gen Bio is taken sophomore of I could still use my AP credits.
