School Rank

Hi guys!

We just got our freshman year ranks and I found out I was 27/625, which is the top 4.32% Its a good rank, but I want to make it even better - hoping to graduate in the top 10 or 15. How hard is it to move up ranks? Any advice? Also, will colleges be okay with a rank like this?

Thanks

4.32% is a great ranking! And it’s not really possible to predict how easy or hard it will be to climb the rankings; that really depends on the people at your school.

If your school specifically states ANYWHERE how it calculates rank (like in my school, it’s in the Student Handbook), you should probably read over that and try to improve based on that. Colleges will DEFINITELY be okay with that rank, many colleges don’t even care about rank, but those that do regard it, will probably think that top 5% is very good.

@awesomepolyglot @raventhemage Thank You!! I am in a very competitive school, and am aiming for ivy leagues. I was just wondering if they look at rank a lot? Thanks for the responses.

Ivies don’t really look at rank that much, valedictorians are a dime a dozen in their application pools. Ivies look at extracurricular activities a lot more. Your rank is really good though, and since you’re a sophomore you’ll definitely be able to improve, though by how much depends a lot on your classmates. Congratulations!

Especially since ~ half of US HS’s do not provide an ordinal rank. For those HS’s, deciles are as detailed as it gets.

4.32% is good enough for any of the best colleges.
