Notebooks are especially useful for math classes and organic chemistry. It's really hard to draw some of that stuff on the laptop.

Scientific calculators can be used on Chem 1A exams. Graphing calculators can be used on Chem 3A exams. Calculators are not allowed for math exams but they are useful to graph something if you don't know what it looks like.

Binder paper is always useful. Sometimes you have notes to write down or short assignments/responses/etc.

As for binders/notebooks/laptops, it's up to your personal preference. Laptops are good for courses in which lots of information is provided in lecture format. If you type fast, you can catch more stuff than if you were wrote it out. If you're taking notes while reading textbooks, I recommend writing in notebooks b/c you're less likely to type everything in the book just b/c your hand will get tired faster.

Printing is available in the computing centers downstairs in the Units. I believe its $5 for 250 sheets. They're generally open from 7am to 10am (Unit 1) and then from 1pm to 1am (Unit 1&2). It's a pretty good deal for printing but if you like to finish papers at 4am, you should get your own printer.

It's all preference, yeah. I thought the hs notebooks a bit twee, but that's me. There's a 3 in 1 and a notebook for each class, which is what I used. I had my laptop for one class, just because I type faster than I write, but some classes have lectures on-line (nice and easy to review!) or links on B-Space.

Printers -- I had my own and it was great until it ran out of ink. Not that I'm high maintenance :D or anything, but when you're gearing up for finals and run out of ink, the last thing you want to do is figure out what ink you're supposed to buy and then find some place that sells it. So I went to the computer center, paid the fee and got my papers done, and out the door on time, yea!
