School Supplies!

I haven't seen this question answered in this forum yet, so I guess I will fire away. I am finishing up my school shopping for Tulane (I will be a freshman this year), and I was wondering what I will need, exactly, for class?

Obviously textbooks, but outside of those, I am pretty much stumped.

I have a Macbook and I would prefer to take notes in class on Word. Do all professors allow students to use their computers in class? If so, do most students take advantage of that opportunity or do many take notes by hand?

Similarly, is there any use for binders and notebook paper in college? These items were the staple of my organizational strategy in high school, but a) would they be useful in college, and b) would I look like the biggest dork on campus if I were to roll into class with a bunch of binders?

Any other advice would be appreciated!

Not sure if this is a totally serious question, as the use of computers in the classroom has been addressd in other threads (yes, its fine to do). As for shopping items, there is a wonderful thread on things to bring or buy for college. It gets resurrected every year. It woudl be a great thread to read to get an idea of what to bring. Good luck.

All those cheap spiral notebooks that you see advertised for ten cents at Walmart? Buy them. The same notebook at the B&N bookstorein the LDC will cost a buck and a half because it’s convenient. Ditto pens, pencils, batteries, and snacks like microwave popcorn. My DS will be a junior and still uses 3 ring binders and spiral notebooks.

In addition to bringing spiral notebooks (ds likes the ones with the pocket dividers) and all the ancillary writing implements, white out, highlighters, printer paper, etc, don’t forget some thank you notes and stamps. Worse comes to worse, there are runs made to the Wal Mart with great regularity.
