School that most looks like Hogwarts?

Which college or university most looks like Hogwarts?

The United States Military Academy at West Point. Hands down.

The Harry Potter film crew came to the U of M Law school to film out-takes and exterior shots. Looks eerily like England!

I know the post is for what “looks” like Hogwarts but…If you have one Protestant parent and one Catholic parent, you might sometimes feel like a muggle at Notre Dame. My d feels right at home despite not being of pure blood.

Mt. Holyoke.

either you answered “Oxford and Cambridge” or you don’t know much about Harry Potter or Oxbridge.

We americans on this forum are being highly U.S. centered by listing these U.S. schools. Our “old” schools are mimicking Oxford and Cambridge. The Harry Potter books were written with these two schools in mind.

College that has the most wizardry and sorcery is the answer.

Actually, given that Hogwarts is for students age 11-17, I think the books were written with traditional British boarding schools in mind, such as Eton or Harrow.

Yeah, but since Hogwarts is actually a movie set, the U.S. colleges actually look more like it.

calmom is right about the inspiration for the Harry Potter stories being the British “public” schools. In fact, the first few Harry Potter books are really British “school stories” with magical elements added.

Georgetown’s Gothic spires.

Technically, the Hogwarts of the movie is more romanesque than gothic: http://www.freewebs.com/kuladiamond2005/hogwarts03a.jpg</a>
While both seek a similar aesthetic through height, Romanesque windows are smaller and consequently the buildings seem darker and heavier. Compare these romanesque structures:

to Oxford: http://www.ceran.com/images/contribute/ceran_uk/photos/surrounding/Oxford.jpg</a>
and the British House of Commons: http://www.judiciaryreport.com/images/houses_of_parliament-5-9-09.jpg</a> whose spires seem positively feathery by comparison.

Maybe so, but many around here still think this looks a lot like Hogwarts:

Sorry, Michigan fans. It seemed so unlikely that the Harry Potter film crew took a trip there that I had to check it out. It has been the set for other films though.

Oxford - game over.

Rhodes College, Memphis

Rhodes is lovely and does have that Hogwarts feel.

My vote goes to the University of Chicago.

Durham in England…a friend of dd’s started this year and his pictures show the Hogwart’s look alike scenes. So much cheaper and he’ll be done in 3 years to boot.

You beat me to it! I agree, especially in the big study room (idk what it’s called).

Here’s a picture of it! (I hope it’s ok to post these kinds of links… )

West Point-- particularly the dining hall. And it doesn’t just look like Hogwarts-- it is the most like Hogwarts.
