I'll never go anywhere with regular snow. I want to experience it once. Too cold is not my thing..although it would be a break from the humid sticky sweaty ugly weather here.

That's a shame. If you live here you get used to it. I lived in a really hot place before I moved up North and it wasn't that big of an adjustment.

Really? I think moving south would be a HUGE adjustment.

Just came back from my first day of school. Here's what we did all day (a total of 3 hours):

N O T H I N G

You were doing exactly what we did for the first 18 hours of school.

and get this, tomorrow is a day off!! 3 hours on school and we get a day off. But in their defence, we did register for the December SAT.

Okay...you have a really weird school schedule. I mean, half days?

but it's only for a month. then everything will be back to normal (a seven hour day 5 days a week)

Is it supposed to be an adjustment period, like a halfway house for newly released prisoners?

So did you talk to anybody about the newspaper?

tommeistar
it's not an adjustmant period. For the next month, the whole country will be fasting..so schools shorten the hours because kids have trouble concentrating in class without eating or drinking anything.

penn
No. I haven't talked to them yet. I'm waiting till we are settled in and all have our schedules. It will take a day or two, then I'll go to the English teacher and see what she has to say.

Oh, I see. Sorry. You don't drink anything either? Wouldn't you die?

LOL..it's only from dawn to sunset each day for the next month. from 6PM to 4 AM people eat as much as they want/

OHHH. That makes more sense. Is it some kind of religious thing?

yeah. Muslims (95% of the Egyptian population) fast one month a year; and during that month everything is shorter becuase people like to go home early to eat :)

Wanna hear something really stupid?
They're naming the classes this year using the names to states. I, for example, am in class 'Texas'. Other's include: Ohio, Kansas, New York, Illinois, Nevada..etc..
This school is really weird :p

Is it an American school? If not that would be extremely strange, but even if it was it would be weird.

weird indeed........We don´t have names for the classes...I mean everyone is just 07 08, whatever.....zero creativity but easier to remember

It teaches the American curriculum..so I guess it is an American school.
When I say 'class' I don't mean the student body or the graduates of a certain year..I mean the rooms in school. Instead of numbers; they name them after something.

Oh, don't you mean that you have one class from first grade to share all classes? That's how it is in ex-SU :)
