ok, so i read, that internationals have to submit a "schoolprofile"... what is that and how do i get it?? my school does not have one person that knows the deal about american unis- do i HAVE to submit it, or is it optional?? thanks for any advice

School profile=introduction to ur school

I get my school profile from my consellor. It introduces the community my school is in, location, no. of students, how school enrolls students, history, curriculum my school adopts, the explanation of our grading and ranking system, major and recent achievement and distinction of the students, and finally the recent post-high school placement.

I think it should be optional cause none of the universities I am applying to requires it. But I think it would really help your chance of admission, because the school profile helps the Admission officers learn about your high school, and thus helps them evaluate your application in a fuller picture. For example, they can know how many graduates of your school go to top uni from the profile. From this they can infer the reputation and the quality of teaching of your high school. They can know the rigor of the curriculum from looking at the grading system and other indicators too.

Bear in mind that if students in your high school do not ‘traditionally’ seek admission in american universities, or that your high school does not have an international reputation, the admission officers are likely to know nothing about your high school.

If your school does not provide high school profile, I recommend you to make one your self or with other fellows who are also applying…the info you need should be all on the website of your school. Print them nicely so to make it like official, and remember to include the address, tel., fax, webpage of your school somewhere.

Hope it helps.

There is an example of how a SP should look like on collegeboard, just search it and it will give you a sample school profile. And most international schools don’t have one so you’ll probably have to make one yourself. One thing you can ask for from the school is to see the school program for the year, because in my case that happened to be a lot of help (it contained info of location, size, classes etc.).

Here’s the link for the sample School Profile:[Creating Your School Profile](School Profiles – Counselors | College Board)

thank you!

Your school guidance counselor needs to make it. Not you. Show samples to him/her so that he/she gets an overview of its content

I wrote it my self, then showed it to my counselor and got some help. Then wrote the last and got it aproved…

wow thanks, guys, haven´t been on cc for some time, now i check back and get LOADS of helpful replies!! thanks, that is awesome!!!
