Schools? ( Exeter, Andover, Groton, H'kiss, etc.)

What schools are you guys applying to?
What do you think your chances are?

I’m straying away from the extremely competitive schools with lower acceptance rates (i.e. Andover, Lawrenceville, Hotchkiss, Exeter, Taft etc.) I’m looking at schools that I think that I would have a slightly better chance of getting into. I’m applying to Emma Willard, Dana Hall, Westminster, Concord, Mercersburg, Peddie, and NMH. Although I’m lacking in quite a few areas of my application (test scores, grades from 7th grade), I feel relatively optimistic. I certainly won’t get accepted to all seven of the schools I’m applying to. But I’m hopeful that there will be 1 or 2 schools that will see past the areas that I’m slightly weaker, and focus more on the areas that I’m really strong… Which schools are you applying to? Also, what grade are you applying for? I’m applying as a current 9th grader, going into 10th.

I’m applying to Andover and Peddie. I feel like I’m a viable candidate for both schools, but the schools may not think the same way (hopefully, that is not the case).

Im applying to some of the lower acceptance rate schools (Deerfield, Middlesex, and Taft). But I think that I have a decent shot at Taft. Im also applying to some mid-range schools (Tabor, St. Mark’s, Kent, and NMH) which Im hoping to be admitted to. Then I have Pmfret on my list which I think will be easier for me to get into but it’s one of my top choices! I know that I won’t get in everywhere, but I think that the schools I’m applying to are broad enough that I’ll get in somewhere and I’d be SOSOSOSOSOSOO happy to attend any one of these schools!
Like Starkali, I’m applying for the 10th grade.

Wow there seem to be a lot of 10th grade applicants on CC.

Applying for 10th grade at: Middlesex, Peddie, Deerfield, Taft, Andover, and SPS.

I’m having second thoughts on Middlesex though. It just seems so small to me now and for some reason I’m just getting a weird vibe from the school.

10th grade! International applicant to Andover, Choate and Hotchkiss!

@helloel - you’re getting a weird vibe from middlesex? i am too…strange. I think it may have been the kids who were in the admissions waiting room hanging out instead of studying. I don’t know though, it may just be me being crazy.

Hah, the thing is I haven’t even visited! I don’t know what it is. What was it like when you visited?

Well, good luck to everyone! Do any of you have a “back-up” school? Like a local public school or private day school? I may apply to a local, private day school, just in case I don’t get accepted to any boarding schools. Am I the only one who is slightly worried that they won’t get into any school?

it was nice. It reminds me a lot of Groton in some ways. I can’t really put my finger on why I don’t love it, I just wasn’t blown away i guess.

starkali: I mean, isn’t the school you already go to (if you’re applying 10th) a back up? But as far as boarding school, I’m not having “a safety boarding school” because I go to a good prep school and will only leave if I get into the best.

Ehpant: are you applying to 10th? And are you still applying to middlesex?

My back up school is the local private school. If I don’t get into the private school, then I’m going to the public school.

@helloel - yep. i have already payed the admission fee.

Helloel: I’m not really satisfied with my current school. Or my school district in general. That’s part of the reason why I’m applying to boarding school.

I’m so excited for decision day! Does anyone know how Peddie notifies their applicants of their decision?

@starkali - I have my current public school, which can be considered the top in my country  It’s good, but restrictive.

wow very broad topic. i’ll bite :)

i’m applying to milton, deerfield, hotchkiss, choate, lawrenceville, groton, and st. paul’s - in no particular order.

my chances… well i really have no accurate idea. i believe i do have a chance, at least, since i was waitlisted at milton, deerfield, hotchkiss, exeter, and concord last year, so i’m taking that as meaning i’m at least qualified. but really, no one can predict the chances for these highly competitive schools.

you? :D

@starkali - there’s some thread on that. i forget what it’s called but its only one or two pages back in the “Prep School Admissions” forum

yeah guys. Im just doing three this year. exeter, h’kiss, and milton. all low acceptance rates, but i will try my best. I really hope i get in this year.
