Hello. Can you tell me what school you feel I should be looking at/ could get admited into? What are my reaches, safties, matches? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

GPA: 3.9/4

ACT: 32 (will be retaking in hopes of a higher score)

APs:
Sophomore yr
-AP Spanish: 5
-AP Human Geo: 4
Junior Year
-AP Language: 3
-AP Bio: 3
-AP Chem: 1
-AP US History: 3
(This is my main concern. Last May I was going through some difficult and painful personal problems. I had As in all the classes but I bombed all my AP tests. Does this kill my chances of getting into a good school? I feel it does but would appreciate any second oppinions or recomendations)

Senior Year
-AP Lit
-AP French
-AP Economics
-AP Government
-College Anatomy & Physiology Lecture (taking it at a local community college)
-College Anatomy & Physiology Lab (taking it at a local community college)
-College Psychology (same as above; not set in stone, there is a waitlist...)

ECs
-I have sort of self-employed myself. I sell 100% handmade (by me) gold and silver jewlery. I do this for the extram income.
-I created a jewlery line called "Alzheimer's Butterfly", for which all of the profits go to the American Foundation for Alzheimer's.
-I am on the American Foundation for Alzheimer's Teen Advisory Board.
-I was on Nordstrom's BP Board this past year. There I helped find ways to market Nordstrom's BP Brand and learned about the buisness.
-I am a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, French National Honor Society.
-Vice President of Science National Honor Society.
-Speak 3 languages and I am self learning my 4th (Portuguese)
-I ran a "comfort item" drive this past year. All of the donations are given to a women's and kid's shelter.
-Have won award on many French and Spanish competitions (too many and they were all different so I won't list them)
-This summer I am selling a special line of jewlery for which each pearl (on a bracelet, necklace, etc...) represents 3 meals for a child.

Profile
I am a Hispanic female from a private school in south Florida. I will be first generation studying in the US, only one of my parents has a degree (bachelors).

It would be helpful if you said what you wanted to study (broad field if not specific major) and do you know if you like large or small, urban or rural? If not sure, visit some colleges close to you (whether you want to apply to them or not) and see which type appeals to you more.

There’s just too many schools in the country to know where to start. You need to do some legwork and reading up.

Very interesting EC’s you have.

fyi, for college apps 1st generation only is a phrase used in terms of 1st to go to college. Not applicable to what country.

Tuition, thankfuly, is not a big problem for me. My parents have always put money aside for my college for years, resulting in a good ammount. I have also applied to several community service related scholarships and have obtained them.

Also:
I wish to major in Biology or Biological Engineering. I would like to attend a medium to large school in an urban setting, it is important for me for the school to be in a place where I can go out, explore, and have fun.

Emory, Case Western, University of Rochester, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, and WUSTL all come to mind as possibilities. The latter two will be reaches, esp with some of your AP scores. The rest should be matches or even safeties (like for Pitt). I think you will have many options.

When applying to these do you think I should:
-Tell them all of my AP scores
-Tell them only my 4 and 5
-Not report any scores

I do not want to be rejected because of them…

Any other schools?

Well, if you focus on the biological engineering major it help narrow the field down a lot. Here is a list of schools according to Institute of Biological Engineering.

Have you ruled out biomedical engineering?

Get familiar with a good search tool such as College Navigator, [College Navigator - Search Results](<a href=“College Navigator - Search Results”>College Navigator - Search Results)
or the one here on CC.
Talk to your guidance counselor. I think you can apply without sending your AP scores to the colleges. Your ACT is good and with your grades and level of difficulty you should be in good shape.
Some ideas BU, Northeastern, Tufts, WPI, RPI, though the last three are not big by my definition, but they are urban and have engineering. Note that schools like WPI, RPI, Case Western may be extra generous with merit aid to attract highly-qualified female students. Also note that Hispanic students are very underrepresented in engineering schools, so that also makes you a valuable applicant in STEM-centric schools.

No I haven’t ruled out biomedical engineering.

I have a high GPA and hopefully I will be able to raise my ACT a little more (I’ve been studying like crazy). From what I’ve seen here on CC my ECs are a bit unique. I have used those search tools but when I received my AP Test scores yesterday I feel that I lost an edge so I am trying to find other schools.

Take a look at the admissions requirements of schools you are interested in. I bet none of them require AP test scores. Once you get *admitted *AP scores can get sent to earn you course credits or to place you in introductory classes.
Note that some schools, especially highly ranked ones do require SAT subject tests. But even some of those waive them if you took the ACT (since it includes a science test which the SAT does not). So you have to look at each one carefully.
The common app website has a giant spreadsheet you can use to look up test requirements.
I think you are in good shape…

I agree with Beantowngirl.

BeanTownGirl: Ok, I think I understand how it works now. Also, where in the common app wesite can I find the spreadsheet you mentioned?
