Schools for strong girl athletes

I've mentioned this a few times on the parents thread, but I wonder, are there schools "known" for good girl athletics? Especially field hockey and lacrosse?
My son's search ended up focused on the boys schools and a couple of others and that won't help me much. We are still a 2 or 3 years away, but would like to start at least going to see some games in the next year or so. D will most likely be a recruited athlete (son was not), so this will be new to me.

You may want to look into some all grls schools, because te ENTIRE spots progran would focous on her, andshe wouldn't have to constantly prove herself against male ahletes.

I don't think girls in coed schools have to prove themselves against male athletes.

I believe Deerfield is strong in both girl's field hockey and lacrosse.

Looking for good athletic opportunities for girls softball and/or basketball - also, do any schools accept girls as PG's for these sports, or are the recruited PG athletes usually boys?!?

Deerfield (10 chara)

Does anyone know which prep schools are best for girls swimming and tennis?

I do not know about tennis but Miss Porter's has a very strong swim team.

MPS has very strong athletics..
As does Holderness, Taft...

Suffield for bouncyball...

Hotchkiss, definitely

and I don't play sports here, so I'm not biased ;)

Mercersburg has an exceptionally strong swimming program Women's swimming. I don't know about their tennis.

Thanks for the suggestions. Will definately look at all of those schools for my D.

Brooks is very strong in Field Hockey & Lacrosse!

Ok, I have some girl's lacrosse info. These are national rankings and there are about 1,400 schools.
The rankings:
Noble & Greenough - 14
Loomis Chafee - 22
Brooks - 32
Hotchkiss - 55
GDA - 86
Middlesex 113
SGS - 135
Peddie - 142
Williston 173
Holderness - 176

Exeter, Andover, Berkshire aRE IN THE 200'S
sUFFIELD aCADEMY - 319
cHESHIRE aCADEMY 500

Even the schools in the 500's are in the top 30% of schools nationally. The girl's powerhouses for last year are the first few schools. You can then go back and look at their rankings for the last couple years on their websites. All of this information came form MaxPreps.

Good Luck!

What about girls' soccer? Also PG years?

I believe that MaxPreps also has information about field hockey and other sports. You can register for free to get the info. I've heard good things about Berkshire's program.

Linda, the hard part is finding a school where you can play competetively and still get a decent amount of playing time. Is your daughter playing for a Select summer lax team? That is really important in order to get higher level experience and to see how she compares to the "serious" players.
(Did you get my pm?)

Thanks for the info everyone!
I think we will try to get to some field hockey games this fall if we can and definately a few lacrosse games in the spring. She has really been loving lacrosse and has had success in several different positions. One of the 9th grade Dads thought she was in 8th grade yesterday (she's in 6th), so she was very excited to hear that.

Sounds like we need to definately get to Hotchkiss - too bad my son didn't end up at Salisbury...

Hi Warrior648,
I just replied to your pm...been a crazy few weeks here.
I don't think my d will play on a select team this summer, but probably next. With motocross it's almost impossible for her to do another sport, especially if she goes to Nationals again (we find out this weekend!). Anyway, she will probably go to a college or prep school run camp so that will give her an little bit of idea as well.

Westover appears to have strong squash and hoops

Linda - you definitely have some great schools to investigate. Does she prefer one sport to the other? I'll check out field hockey stats when I get a chance. as you already know there's no way to guarantee how any school will do 3 years from now, but good players tend to go to schools with the potential to have strong programs. I did notice that the top girl's teams belonged to NEPSaC. Not sure what that stands for. It's also impressive that Brooks and Gov. are ranked as high as they are and don't have PG's. Of course, if it was me I would send her to St. George's so I could hang out in Newport....
