Well - I’m looking to go to school in the D.C. area, and so far, these are the schools that I’ve found in the area (please add any that I might have missed), and what I perceive them to be ranked as. Please rank them as you see fit.

Georgetown

George Washington

American

University of Maryland - College Park

Catholic University of America

Howard University

Gallaudet University

University of District Columbia

Hampton University

Strayer University

Virginia State University

just remember that Howard and UDC are HBSC (historically black schools and colleges).

other schools to consider: marymount university, university of mary washington, and james madison. marymount is very close to DC, while JMU and mary washington are more like 2 hours away.

Johns Hopkins is usually associated with Baltimore, but in fact JHU has facilities scattered throughout the whole Baltimore-Washington area. For example, JHU's graduate school in international studies is based in DC, and the business school has a DC campus as well.

I think that all of the JHU undergraduate schools (Arts & Sciences; Engineering; Music) are in Baltimore. But even so, they are still much closer to DC than some of the other colleges on your list (like Virginia State or Hampton).

If you consider Baltimore-Washington as a single metro area, then JHU is the highest rated school within that area, according to US News anyway.

I'm going to visit D.C. (for the first time) for a college visit next week. I'll be checking out GWU, American, and UMD College Park. Are there any other worthwhile schools in the D.C. area I should check out while I'm up there? (I'm not a strong candidate for GTown)
