So, my school only has 4 AP total classes (AP Chem, English, Gov., and Calc), three of which are my senior year, and doesn't use a weighted GPA system, which totally messes up our class rank (don't even get me started on how this screwed my brother over for being valedictorian). So, will this hurt my chances for getting into a good school? Will a school take it upon themselves to "weight" my GPA, as it were?

Well, you might be relieved to hear that a lot of schools 'recalculate' your gpa according to their standards, i.e. leaving out gym credits, weighting your gpa, and possibly leaving out frosh grades. Not all of them do this, but many do. As for the AP's, while it won't help, if you have a good guidance counselor it won't hurt either, URGE your guidance counselor to emphasize that you took the most rigorous classes possible, and make him include in the rec. how your school only offers 4, colleges will understand, and not blame you for it.

The school my sons have attended don't weight grades and don't have very many AP classes. It is a large urban school. Students get accepted to excellent colleges every year, including the Ivy League. It will not hurt your chances as long as the college has a good picture of your high school, what it offers and how it grades.

Well just so you know one of my friends last year got into Harvard and a couple other kids in her class got into some others ivies (Brown and Dartmouth come to mind). Anyways she goes to a school that doesn't have any APs or weight your GPA; her school is pretty tough though. But i just thought you should know...:-D
