High school doesn't weigh gpa...

ugh, my school doesn't weigh my gpa. I have an unweighted gpa 3.4 and i have taken two advanced classes so far with two more coming up senior year. Will this look bad when i apply to colleges? My school is fairly competitive, it's top 30 public i believe here where i live. Do colleges recalculate your gpa? Will this hurt my chances at all? (I am not planning on applying to ivies or anything)

Two advanced classes doesn’t sound like very much. By advanced, do you mean honors and above, or AP/IB and above? How many advanced classes does the average student at your school take before senior year? If it’s 0, then the fact that your school doesn’t weigh GPA may hurt you; otherwise, probably not.

Some colleges do recalculate GPA, yes. You can run searches on specific colleges to find out which ones do. Generally, higher ranked colleges tend to recalculate more.

Yeah, AP and Honors. I’m not sure what the average is, but i assume it is about 2-3.

Whoops, clarifying an assumption: I assumed that your school does rankings (ranks are more important than raw GPA). Since you’ve taken about as many advanced classes as the average, so your UW rank shouldn’t be that different from what your W rank would be and you should be fine.

If your school doesn’t do rankings, then I’d still say it doesn’t hurt you unless you literally failed your advanced classes.

From what I’ve heard, most colleges take away any weighing that your school has done. Some then choose to weigh based on their own system, but others choose to keep them all unweighed, so you won’t be at a disadvantage because of your school (my school does the same thing). Just make sure that all of the rest of your credentials are strong, and the GPA will not be so much of a negative.
