Schools like AU

For those of you who had a hard time deciding to attend AU vs somewhere else, where else were you looking? My S20 is interested in AU . It seems to have most of what he is looking for: midsize, potential majors of psychology and journalism, near a city but not right in one, some green space, warmer weather than MA where we are from. He’s a little put off by the social scene, maybe not enough sports enthusiasm for him there. He’s looking for ideas for other schools that someone who likes AU would also like. He is a B+ student, decent rigor and extracurriculars, SAT pending but should be better than his grades.
Any ideas?

Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. Warm (sometimes hot) weather, great campus, good sports teams, nice city with good airport access. TCU is not a religious school.

Also Southern Methodist University in Dallas. I graduated from AU and SMU.

Two schools I’ve known nothing about, before! Thanks!
Both look like the right idea from their websites, though we were hoping to stay driving distance from MA (so extending to near mid-west or about as far south as Virginia).
Any more ideas? Any in NY State, or PA? We are pretty well versed in OOS Publics, but need more info on privates.

How about Fordham?

Ithaca?

Imo, nothing is like the AU opportunity to be in DC except other DC colleges. Certainly not schools far from this sort of action. DC is an amazing place to study. Vibrant, but accessible, lots for the college-age kids to do. Again, imo.

I don’t usually focus on location in this way. But you’d have to tell us more of what he wants

While not midsize, I would consider University of Maryland College Park. They have excellent journalism and psychology programs, it is near DC but not in the actual center of the city. The social scene is incredibly different from AU, though - way more emphasis on sports. I know a journalism major from AU who transferred there and was able to do sports news for the school and he really loves it.
