Schools like Rice

Bowdoin, Holy Cross, Davidson.

Rice is a bit of an island within Texas. Its pretty distinct from the rest of “texas” if you know what I mean. Many choose Rice despite the fact that itts in Texas, nopt because of it.

Agree with those who say there are not a lot of schools like Rice. That said, choosing a small school with a residential college system would be the most similar. Wiki has a nice list of schools with residential colleges or living/learnign communities [Residential college - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Residential college - Wikipedia)

Vassar has house fellows in the dorms, but they do not have a residential college system per se. Neither does Emory, but Wash U does. That said, schools like Vassar, Bard, Middlebury, Tufts, etc may have a similar feel to Rice. I agree with the Claremont colleges suggestion too. Good luck!!

catpb…I sat in on several classes at Rice and spent a few days there (2 days recently and then last year) and visited with a lot of people and love it. I love the residential college system. I just feel like I am in my element at Rice.

Why not apply to St Olaf…I might still apply there. But, I have so much family there, some who are associated with Carleton. And they have given me a hard time that I just have to go to Carleton and I will regret it if I go to St Olaf. To be honest, I worry they could be right, and there is a lot more to Carleton than what I have seen and I will realize it once there. They declare their hate for St Olaf, over and over and over again. I thought I loved it. Then the doubts just set in. In the end, we all decided (my parents and I)that I would just stay out of Northfield. There are enough colleges out there that I do not need to wrestle with those two and which is the better choice for me, and so on. Maybe once there, Carleton would be a perfect fit. I do not know. Obviously, none of us really know until we are there. But, the politics of the entire decision there has proven too much.

Another thing about Rice (which both Northfield schools has) is that I can change my major around. I am unsure what I want to major in. I already got in to TAMU. I was very excited. But reality is, I do not know what I want to major in, so, that does not work well. Plus, I hear the financial aid is not good there and I need financial aid.
