Colleges Like This?

I’ve somewhat narrowed down what I want in a college to 2 main requirements:

A great education with others who share that goal

A social scene not filled with drugs/alcohol

A little bit of research and I came up with only a couple of colleges, Rice and UChicago. Any other suggestions? I have UT-Austin included as well, but as a safety.

What are your stats?
Swarthmore is known as a great college for serious students. It's hard to get into, however.

Swarthmore ,Carleton

Those are really broad requirements. What else are you looking for? You might consider Swarthmore or the University of Rochester. But more information about your preferences is needed. Size, location, academic programs, "vibe," etc.

And I second the suggestion of Carleton.

I third Carleton!

I'm a rising junior so stats are kind of vague. I expect to get somewhere around 2200-2300 on the SAT, [from practice tests :o], and I believe I'm in top 10% of my class [they don't rank except for Val and Sal each semester]. I've taken the hardest classes I can. By the end of Junior Year, I expect to be President of 1, maybe 2 or even 3 clubs which I'm going to be doing a lot of work with.

Stats are good, but what are YOU like?

Do you mean by personality, accomplishments, learning style, upbringing...soul-baring essence?

Doesn't Rice have a wet campus, though?

^^ Yep. :D

And also what I listed earlier--basic school preferences.

zoaxanthellae--The fact that you would even think to say "soul-baring essence" makes you a candidate for Carleton! :)

^ My parents are pretty adamant against sending me to an out-of-state school that isn't USNWR top 30 or so :(

Oh, and "soul-baring essence" was kind of a joke :)

Aaaaand I probably should have said this sooner but I'm hoping to be a math/math with economic focus major

Carleton would be a very good choose for you.

If your parents would have a problem sending you to Carleton, then, well, woe unto them.

Carleton ranks in the top 30 LACs, I believe.

^
Carleton was ranked 5, I think, in the liberal arts college rankings

Carleton is ranked 5th LAC in 2008 and now is 8th. But for some reason, most people I meet in Minnesota do not like people that go to Carleton.

That's weird. I'm rather fond of my daughter and all of her Carleton friends. But then, I live in Kentucky. Maybe if I were a Minnesotan, I'd feel differently. :)
