Schools of Arts for a Film Composer

Hi,
i've sent my applications to study composition to NEC, Peadody, B.Conserv, Hartt, Suny Purchase, but the problem is that I realized that many of these schools are to "limiting" for me since i want to become a film composer and not a serious classical composer. I think for example that schools like NEC are amazing but not suitable for my case; shurely Hartt would be great for me. I was thinking of other schools like:

North Carolina Schools of Arts
Florida State University

where i can study Composition (B.M.) with good teachers and also be part of a community that includes other arts and especially film programs so i can practice what i wanna do in the future.
Could you please tell me more about these 2 schools and help me find some other schools like these?????? (on the east coast!).

Good luck! dd

NYU (New York University) has a solid composition faculty, and a specialized concentration within the BM for film scoring according to their website.

<a href="http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/music/page.php?page_id=21%5B/url%5D">http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/music/page.php?page_id=21</a></p>

They also offer a masters level program as well.

You might want to look into it.

NYU is noted for not being generous with aid for US citizens. I imagine the chances for foriegn students are even less.

University of Southern California

While i wouldn't recommend it for straight classical composition, Berklee has a lot to offer in terms of film scoring... and Howard Shore went there!

True...but I'm almost certain he didn't go there for 'film scoring.' The program wasn't in place at that time.

exactly..he went there for composition.....and believe me...i've talked to several people in the film scoring course...they say it's most self study since the faculty is not that good and it's a new course.....

FSU has the second best film school in the country, and Mark Wingate who's very good in the field of electroacoustic music. I'd strongly suggest checking them out.

What the heck does "second best film school" in the country mean? How do you quantify?

This is what I've been told, and they have won numerous awards among other things.
